A near £40,000 contract has been issued for repairs to a bridge on the A171 near Scaling Dam reservoir.

The contract award by Redcar and Cleveland Council, which began last month, will deliver structural improvements to Waupley Bridge.

A delegated decision report for council cabinet members said: “The masonry stone built parapets of Waupley Bridge have been damaged by vehicle collisions which have resulted in the collapse of sections of masonry blockwork on both sides of the A171.

“Temporary speed restriction over the bridge (40mph) is currently in place for protection of drivers and temporary barriers have been installed.”

It said a competitive procurement exercise had been undertaken leading to the decision to award a contract to Wilf Noble Construction & Plant Hire Ltd.

The contract term would be for three months beginning from September 1.
