A major retail development expected to create around 300 jobs in Bishop Auckland is rapidly taking shape, with new pictures revealing how much has changed in recent weeks.

Work is continuing on Phase Two of Tindale Retail Park, where four new retail units and additional car parking are being created to the west of the existing development.

Now, the latest images show parts of the development looking considerably closer to completion.

Large sections of the new buildings have been enclosed, with dark and brown exterior cladding transforming what had previously been exposed steel structures.

One substantial building now has much of its roof and external walls in place, although openings remain at ground level as construction work continues inside and around the unit.

Elsewhere on the site, another large steel structure remains exposed, providing an indication of the scale of the new buildings being constructed.

Construction machinery, platforms and building materials can be seen across the development, while temporary fencing continues to separate the active building site from the surrounding retail park.

Work on the latest phase began in January after plans for the expansion were approved in November.

Once completed, the scheme will provide four additional retail units as well as new parking spaces.

Around 300 job opportunities are expected to be created by the development.

The expansion will add to an area which has undergone considerable development in recent years and is already home to a range of national businesses.

Existing occupiers at Tindale include Home Bargains, PureGym and Popeyes, while the latest phase is intended to bring further national retailers to the Bishop Auckland site.

CGI images released as part of the plans previously offered a glimpse of how the development would eventually appear.

Create Architecture, which produced the designs, said previously that the project would "strengthen Bishop Auckland's retail offering" and "provide residents with greater choice".
