A motorist has been ordered to pay a fine and costs of more than £1,000 after admitting driving 'without reasonable consideration' for other road users on the A19 in County Durham.

Samuel Smith, 26, of Houghton Road, Houghton-le-Spring, appeared at Peterlee Magistrates' Court on September 28.

The court was told Smith drove a Land Rover on the A19 at Wingate on January 26.

He admitted driving without reasonable consideration for other persons using that road, contrary the Road Traffic Act 1988 and the Road Traffic Offenders Act 1988.

The court fined Smith £768 and ordered him to pay £85 in costs to the Crown Prosecution Service.

The court took Smith’s guilty plea into account before sentencing. A collection order was made for the fine.
