A MISSING person has been found after an overnight search along the North Yorkshire coast involving the coastguard, police, mountain rescue, and ambulance crews

Emergency services were called out to Whitby just before midnight yesterday (October 3) for a large-scale search for a missing person.

Whitby and Scarborough RNLI lifeboats were launched, Coastguard Rescue Helicopter 912 was deployed, and coastguard teams from Staithes, Ravenscar, and Scarborough joined the search.

The search was paused shortly after daybreak to allow the teams to rest, but resumed later in the morning with support from mountain rescue and the police helicopter.

After several hours, the person was found safely and handed over to ambulance crews.

A spokesperson for Whitby Coastguard said: "After several more hours, the missing person was safely located by search teams and passed into the care of the ambulance service.

"We’re pleased to report that this had a safe outcome. Thank you to every team and agency who worked through the night and into the next day."

Whitby Coastguard described it as a "real multi agency effort" and thanked everyone - both volunteers and full-time emergency workers - who responded to the call and worked through the night to help.

They added "This incident is one of many, that require a multi agency response, quietly being undertaken in early hours by both full time emergency services and volunteers and workers who give their own time around their day jobs and families."

No further details have been released to protect the privacy of those involved.
