A “lovely” pub in York has been named one of the best pubs with rooms in the UK for a cosy autumn break.
The Independent has released a list of the best pubs around the UK that have rooms and are perfect for an autumnal escape.
Many of the spots are nestled in the countryside but a few can be found in cities such as London, Manchester, and even York.
The Guy Fawkes Inn in York made it onto the list because of its allegedly haunted history.
What is the Guy Fawkes Inn like?
On the pub, the Independent said: “York has long been described as one of the most haunted cities in Europe.
“As autumn days bring on the spooky season, York expert Charlotte Eggleston-Johnstone recommends a stay at the historic Guy Fawkes Inn, a pub ‘steeped in character with a raffish undertone’ and named after the infamous plotter who is said to have been born on the site in 1570.
“The inn is also said to be haunted, and Charlotte tells guests to book the Belfry Suite if they’re open to an apparition or two.
“If you are not particularly fond of shadowy supernatural beings or are visiting at other times in the year, the pub’s other features include 27 rooms, a restaurant and a small bar serving a good pour of real ale.”
Guests can stay in the individually designed en-suite bedrooms and enjoy a meal in the AA Rosette restaurant.
The rooms are “characterful” with double rooms to four-poster rooms set within the Grade II listed building.

You can also choose to have a room that overlooks the York Minster.
The pub also offers a guided walking tour of the city where you can find out more about “the stories, secrets, and scandals of historic York” during your stay.
During the week, the Guy Fawkes Inn has a set menu where two courses cost £25 and three courses cost £30.
Its à la carte menu features a range of items from pizzas to risotto, mac and cheese, and chicken parmigiana.
There are plenty of sides to add onto your meal and a few classic desserts to finish off your evening.
