New events could be coming to York City’s home ground if plans from its operator are approved.
Boxing and wrestling matches are among the events proposed in a licensing application lodged for the LNER Community Stadium.
Operator York Stadium Management Company’s application stated other events would be held no more than three days a year between the start of May and the end of June.
The application lodged with City of York Council would grant the operator a licence to host events which feature live and recorded music, dance performances and similar activities.
Plans include hosting three boxing or wrestling matches a year, along with the other events proposed in May and June.
They would be held within the bowl of the 8,500-capacity stadium at Huntington’s Monks Cross Shopping Park.
Land next to its west and north stands and North Car Park would be used when outdoor events within the stadium bowl take place.
The stadium would be licensed for events from 9am to 10.30pm daily, with alcohol sales permitted from 12pm.
People can comment on the application until Wednesday, 28 October.
It follows a separate bid to try and tackling queues for the stadium’s bar at peak times lodged with the council earlier this month.
Greenwich Leisure Ltd’s (GLL) application would see a ‘Box Bar’ created to increase the points of sale for alcohol.
Changes in the application also include reducing the hours when the 8,500-capacity stadium would be licensed to sell alcohol.
Sales would end at 11.30pm across all licensed areas in the stadium if the plans are approved, two and a half hours earlier than the current 2am.
Non-sporting events such as showing televised matches on screens would also be permitted.
Approval of the application from the operator of the stadium’s leisure facilities would see the stadium licensed to sell alcohol from 8am to 11.30pm, every day.
It would also allow indoor sporting events and other performances including those featuring live and recorded music to be held during those hours.
That application is open for comments until Wednesday, 21 October.
