At noon today (October 3), an anti-racism protest took place in Bradford city centre.
Assembling at City Park at 12pm, community organisers, political activists, charities and campaign groups from across West Yorkshire carried placards, flyers - and in some cases - donned spectacular homemade costumes in aid of the day.

Stand Up to Racism Bradford organised the family-friendly Bradford & District Is For Everyone protest in response to “the increase in racism, hate, division and the rise of the far right” in the UK.
It included a unity march through the city followed by an indoor festival.

Colourful flags littered the skies, and as groups congregated outside City Hall, we got the opportunity to speak with some of the protestors.
A group of Leeds students had taken the trip over to Bradford to take part in the protest, representing the Socialist Students.

One of them told us: "There's a lot more of us [anti-racists] than there are of them [racists].
"I think we have to see what's behind this rise in right-wing attitudes and racist ideas.
"What we have to do [as socialists] is put forward that positive alternative."

Another Leeds student told us: "It's greatly personal to be standing amongst other people fighting for the same cause: smash racism.
"It's important, to me personally, and as a collective, to just show up, to try stand against a growing tide of racism and violence against immigrants, migrants and ultimately people who are not the problem in society."

We also caught up with local homelessness volunteer Matthew.
He works for Bradford Nightstop, a non-profit organisation supporting young people aged 18-25 at risk of homelessness.

Mathew felt it was vital that he showed up to promote "community cohesion" and remind people that "everyone is welcome" in Bradford.

The peaceful march then set off at around 12.45pm.
West Yorkshire Police officers followed the crowd from a short distance.
There were no visible signs of any counter-protests, and as the march snaked its way through the streets, passersby stopped to observe the spectacle.
Drums, singing, dancing and chanting continued, with occasional breaks for speeches.
What police said
In an earlier statement, a spokesperson for WYP said: "Police are aware of an intention by supporters of Stand Up to Racism to march around Bradford city centre from around 12.30pm today.
"There will be a policing presence to allow the supporters to carry out their march safely and minimise any disruption."
