Families can enjoy Halloween magic at a County Durham forest this October, as a seasonal activity is added to a popular children’s trail.

Forestry England has added a spooky twist to the Room on the Broom trail at Hamsterley Forest, inspired by the much-loved children’s story by Julia Donaldson and Axel Scheffler.

The trail follows the story of Witch and her friends as they journey through the forest, with themed activities along the way.

Laura Hull, visitor experience manager at Forestry England, said: "We’re delighted to add some extra Halloween magic to our Room on the Broom trail this October.

"The seasonal activity gives families another reason to head into the forest, follow the clues and explore together.

"Whether families are discovering the trail for the first time or returning for another adventure, there’s plenty of woodland magic waiting to be found."

Children can help Witch find her missing hat, bow and wand as they explore the trail.

The Halloween experience adds magical cauldrons to spot and a themed crossword to complete.

Families can buy a Room on the Broom trail pack for £4.
