A Northumberland beach has been named the UK’s most dog-friendly.
Inspiring Vet Care has released its list of the best dog-friendly beaches around the UK, with a spot in Northumberland topping the list.
Alnmouth beach beat other dog-friendly spots on the English, Scottish, Welsh and Irish coasts.
If you are looking for somewhere to enjoy an autumnal walk, Alnmouth beach might be the perfect spot.
What is Alnmouth beach like?
Alnmouth beach is a wide, sandy bay beside the village of Alnmouth.
The beach has plenty of space for dogs to run and children to build sandcastles.
The beach car park is right beside the sand, making it easy to bring a picnic and watch the sea for hours.
The nearby village has plenty of places to eat, including Nanna Pats Café and Bistro for a quick bite and Bistro 23 for dinner.
David Martin, Group Director of Animal Welfare at Inspiring Vet Care, said: “Coastal walks are a brilliant way for dogs to stay active during the summer.
“The shoreline, sand and cool water all offer a mix of exercise and sensory stimulation, giving dogs the chance to stretch their legs and enjoy a sense of freedom that’s different from a normal walk.
“Keep an eye out for common coastal hazards on the beach, such as jellyfish, hidden debris and hot sand.
“If your dog gets into difficulty whilst in the water, never enter the water yourself - instead, contact the emergency services or coastguard for help.
“Taking a few simple precautions can help keep you and your dog safe whilst enjoying a day at the beach.”
