This follows a major blaze at Fylingdales last year which is believed to have been caused by cooking using a naked flame, such as a campfire or gas burner.

Dry conditions at the time fuelled the fire, which covered 20 square kilometres - 10 times the size of the Great Fire of London - and for over 40 days from August 11.

“Crews are working alongside the Forestry Commission, keeping the fire contained,” said a spokesperson for the service.

They added that incident is still ongoing.
