Tributes have been paid to a “one in a million” 19-year-old who died after a crash in North Yorkshire.

Alfie Miller was pronounced dead following the collision on the A163 at Barlby, near Selby, on Monday evening (September 28).

He was travelling in a blue Land Rover SVR which collided with the rear of a tractor towing a large trailer loaded with hay bales, North Yorkshire Police said.

Emergency services were called to the crash, near the junction of Whitemoor Lane, at 7.30pm on Monday but Alfie was pronounced dead at the scene.

Another 19-year-old man travelling in the Land Rover and the driver of the Massey Ferguson tractor were also taken to hospital with injuries, North Yorkshire Police said.

The force said the driver of the tractor was helping police with the investigation.

Mr Miller’s family members described him as the “most kind and loving and ambitious young man you could have ever met”.

“He had dreams and he had plans, and we know he would have accomplished them all. Just look at what he had achieved already,” they said in a statement released by North Yorkshire Police.

"Alfie was an extraordinary young man. He was an incredible businessman, with so much ambition, determination and drive that made him stand out from a very young age.

“But our Alfie was so much more than his achievements. He was our whole world, and our hearts are so broken.

“He was the most charismatic, charming young man. Any room he entered, he would light it up. You couldn’t help but love him.”

'There will never be another like him'

The family added that Mr Miller was “larger than life” and “always had a smile on his face”.

“Our son was one in a million, and there will never be another like him,” the family statement said.

“We will forever wonder what more he would have achieved, because we know there was so much more to come.

“The unbelievable amount of love shown following his death shows just how many lives our Alfie touched. We have had hundreds of photos, videos and messages sent to us by everyone who loved him.

"Alfie, you are irreplaceable. We are unbelievably proud of everything you achieved in your short life and how you lived it to the full, but most of all, we are so proud to have called you ours.
