Morrisons has become the first UK supermarket to offer grocery collection lockers.

Click and collect lockers have been launched at the supermarket's Skipton store, making it the first in the UK to pilot the service.

Shoppers can collect orders quickly without waiting for staff.

Liam Bonfield, store manager at Morrisons Skipton, said: "We know that when customers choose Click & Collect, they want it to be as quick and convenient as possible.

"Skipton’s new lockers mean their shopping is pre-packed, ready to go and can be collected in seconds right next to the parking bays—giving people more flexibility and time back.

"We’re delighted to be the first UK supermarket to offer this new experience, bringing best-in-class technology to our shoppers."

An official ribbon-cutting ceremony was held on Wednesday, September 30, by Councillor Winston Feather, Mayor of Skipton.

Shoppers were given free goodie bags and ice cream from a Yorkshire Dales Ice Cream van.

The lockers replace the old click-and-collect service, where staff handed over loose items.

Orders are packed in Morrisons paper bags and stored in temperature-controlled lockers, and customers collect them with the six-digit code on their receipt.

Lockers are marked grocery, chilled or frozen to keep food fresh.

They are located next to dedicated parking bays for easy access.

The service is designed for both full weekly shops and smaller top-up orders.

Customers can collect orders the same day until 10pm—two hours later than under the old system.

Lockers containing age-restricted items stay locked until a staff member checks valid ID.

The technology, supplied by StrongPoint ALS, has been used successfully across Europe for more than a decade.

It is designed specifically for grocery collection.

The Skipton store is the first in the UK to pilot the system.

Morrisons says it is exploring new ways to make shopping easier and meet changing customer needs.

The lockers give shoppers a more flexible way to collect their groceries without waiting at the service desk.

The system gives Skipton shoppers a faster, simpler way to collect groceries and save time.
