A £500,000 regeneration project is underway to transform Shipley town centre with new paving, greenery, and travel upgrades.

Funded by the Government’s Shipley Towns Fund, the scheme forms part of Bradford Council’s ongoing efforts to revitalise public spaces and support high street growth.

Work began earlier this month and is expected to be completed later this year.

Andrew Judson, executive member for regeneration, economy, and planning at Bradford Council, said: "This project represents another leap forward for our regeneration work in Shipley.

"It is a great example of a targeted investment designed to drive local economic growth and support the high street, ensuring Shipley remains a resilient and dynamic hub for the district."

The improvements will refresh public areas across Kirkgate, Otley Road, Market Square, Central Avenue, and Market Street, with full site clearance, excavation, and the installation of new paving and footways.

Key pedestrian crossings in Market Square will be resurfaced to improve safety, and street furniture in the area will be repainted.

Additional landscaping will be introduced on Kirkgate, and new trees will be planted on Well Croft.

A new real-time travel information totem has also been installed outside Santander, offering live updates for bus and rail services.

Gill Thornton, chair of the Shipley Towns Fund, said: "The Shipley Towns Fund is dedicated to delivering projects that positively impact how local people live in our town and the local area for generations to come.

"This latest £500,000 investment builds directly on our previous successes in completely transforming Market Square.

"By installing high-quality paving, increasing our urban greenery, and rolling out digital transit infrastructure, we are creating a modern, vibrant environment where local businesses can thrive and residents can feel proud to shop and spend time."

This phase of improvement follows the multi-million-pound refurbishment of Market Square, completed last year.

That project was funded by £3 million from the Shipley Towns Fund and £1 million from the West Yorkshire Combined Authority’s Streets for People fund.

The previous scheme delivered a full redesign of Market Square, setting the tone for further regeneration in the town centre.

Current works are being delivered by Bethell Group on behalf of Bradford Council.
