Five colourful baby bunny sculptures will go under the hammer at a charity auction linked to a popular North East art trail.

Five specially decorated Peter Rabbit sculptures will be auctioned in Newcastle.

The smaller sculptures were created to complement the Peter Rabbit: Tales on the Tyne trail, which displayed larger versions across Newcastle and North Tyneside throughout the summer.

The ‘baby bunnies’ were not part of the main trail but gave art lovers and Beatrix Potter fans the chance to own a smaller piece of the project.

Each sculpture is 86cm tall, 40cm wide and 40cm deep, and weighs about 12kg.

Highlights include Lot 31, Hop on the Tyne, a football-inspired design by David Maguire, and his heart-themed Lot 37, Amora.

Lot 38, Beachcombing with Peter by Daniel J. Weatheritt, reflects the artist’s love of searching Northumberland’s beaches for sea glass, shells, pottery and other coastal treasures.

Lot 39, Peter Rabbit by Julia Stafford, pays tribute to Beatrix Potter’s beloved character, while Lot 40, Ruby Rabbit by Natalie Radcliffe, marks 40 years of St Oswald’s care.

Sponsored by Greggs, Ruby Rabbit celebrates the hospice’s decades of service to families across the region.

A special Snowdog sculpture, Lot 28, was created by Steve Johnson to mark the tenth anniversary of the Great North Snowdogs art trail and will also be auctioned.

The public can view the baby bunnies at the trail’s Farewell Event on October 10 and 11, before the auction at Newcastle Civic Centre on October 13.
