A former care home site in York is being cleared to make way for 36 affordable council homes.
The development will take place at the Willow House site in Walmgate and will include a mix of social rent and shared ownership properties.
Work is scheduled to begin early next year, with 60 per cent of the homes planned for social rent and the remaining 40 per cent for shared ownership.
Councillor Dave Merrett, executive member for housing at City of York Council, said: "It’s great news to see progress being made on this scheme to bring social rent and shared ownership homes to the heart of the city for residents in need of affordable housing.
"All 36 homes will be truly affordable, will be well insulated and therefore lower cost to heat."
F Parkinson Ltd, the council’s contractor, will demolish the former care home and a nearby garage block as part of site preparations.
Work will take place from Monday to Thursday between 7.30am and 4pm, and on Fridays from 7.30am to 3pm.
The project forms part of a wider £1 million investment to improve the Walmgate area, including upgrading open spaces and addressing anti-social behaviour.
Steve Kenneally, regional manager NE for F Parkinson Ltd, said: "We’re delighted to be part of this project to bring more high-quality council homes to the city.
"As a considerate contractor, we’re committed to working with residents to keep them informed of what work is coming up and what we’ll be doing to keep disruption to a minimum."
