Watch: 22 people arrested over 74 suspected offences in major Leeds police operation

Watch as police carry out a major operation across Leeds which saw 22 people arrested on suspicion of a total of 74 offences.

A total of 22 people were arrested on suspicion of 74 offences as officers carried out enquiries to locate people wanted in connection with criminal offences.

The operation took place on Wednesday (Sep 30) and coincided with the first Student Officer Intensification Week, giving student officers the opportunity to gain skills ahead of upcoming assessments.

Around 20 student officers joined Leeds District officers, with support also provided by the Special Constabulary, Mounted Section and a Live Facial Recognition van in Leeds city centre.

Police made 22 arrests in the operation

Those arrested were suspected of offences including sexual offences, domestic abuse offences, harassment, stalking, robbery, burglary, theft from a shop and theft of a motor vehicle.

Officers also carried out numerous stop searches, with two community resolutions issued for drug possession offences. Four people subject to criminal orders were also stopped and checked.

Detective Chief Inspector Andy Farrell, of Leeds District, said: “We saw some great results when we ran a similar operation in July and this time we had around 20 student officers joining us in conducting arrest enquiries for those wanted for some of the most serious offences.

“This operation demonstrates the benefit that our student officers bring during their training with a number of them making arrests which have supported colleagues in progressing their investigations and hopefully securing justice for victims.

“We will continue running these operations, bringing officers and staff from departments across the district together away from routine demand to conduct proactive enquiries to locate people suspected of causing significant harm in our communities.”
