We certainly love a good carvery!
My review of the carvery at the Fox and Hounds in Langthorpe, Boroughbridge, attracted so many more readers than my other food reviews, it inspired me to review the carvery at The Anchor in Whixley.
In turn, this led many of our readers to comment on which places serve the best carvery.
Several agreed with other readers that the choice and quality of the mains is “amazing”, noting the Anchor Inn does lamb shank, salmon and chicken in white wine.
“But it’s the veg that lets it down,” said one reader.

They added: “The puddings are also amazing. [They] just need to up the anti with the veg in my opinion.”
Another agreed and one more said: “I completely agree. The choice of meats are excellent and really tasty. But the veg is just steamed and very bland.”
However, one reader responded: “On the contrary I've been several times and it's very good. All I'm saying is the [best carvery for] "hundreds of miles" claim [quoting a reader quoted in the review] is a bit OTT.”

Several readers said their favourite place for a carvery is The George at Wormald Green between Harrogate and Ripon.
Citing both its food and “excellent service.”
A couple said The Chequers Inn at Bishop Thornton, near Fountains Abbey, was best.
Whilst a couple plumped for the Carlton Tavern in Acomb.
One said: “We love Fox & Hounds Langthorpe. The carvery is brilliant!”
Having recently tried both the Anchor Inn and the Fox and Hounds at Langthorpe, our readers are right.
The Anchor Inn does have the best choice and excellent mains.
But when it comes to the vegetables, they are not as good as those at the Fox and Hounds, where the mains are also excellent, though there is less choice.

I was back at the Fox and Hounds only last week, this time enjoying the beef and pork, and yes, the vegetables were much better than they were at the Anchor.
Dad, however, preferred the beef at the Anchor, but he does like his meat well done, as it was at the Anchor, whereas at the Fox and Hounds, the striploin was served pink, as I prefer.
I guess much is down to individual taste.
Anyway, one reader also recommended the Lysander Arms in Rawcliffe.
I recall going there one Sunday a few months back and it was so full, there was no room, so we had to eat elsewhere.
It looks like that must be worth a visit and perhaps a review soon.
The Carlton Tavern might be worth a try too.
And it looks like a return to The George at Wormald Green will also be on the cards.
I recall my last visit there some years ago was quite pleasant with good food.
I am sure there are also other carveries well worth a visit.
Where do you recommend?
