A 1940s-themed weekend is set to return next year after its successful debut event.
East Yorkshire’s Burton Constable Hall will host the event for a second time on Saturday, September 25, and Sunday, September 26, 2027, following positive feedback from visitors and participants.
The inaugural event, which took place on September 26–27 this year, featured living history displays, battle skirmishes, firepower demonstrations, and a showcase of military and vintage vehicles.
Alasdair Hutson, chief executive at the Burton Constable Foundation, said: "We’re absolutely delighted with how our first-ever 1940s Weekend went.
"It was fantastic to welcome so many people to Burton Constable for this inaugural event and to see families, re-enactors and history enthusiasts making the most of everything on offer, from the living history camps and displays to the music and vintage vehicles.
"There was a wonderful atmosphere throughout the weekend, and the feedback from visitors has been overwhelmingly positive."
Visitors also enjoyed historical talks, an East Riding Yeomanry exhibition, period traders, vintage DJs, and social dancing.
Many praised the historic venue and suggested expanding the event further across the estate in future years.
Mr Hutson said: "Time and again people told us how much they enjoyed the event and how keen they are to see it become a regular fixture in the calendar.
"Burton Constable proved to be the perfect setting, with the scale and character of the estate providing a fantastic backdrop for an event of this kind.
"As a first event, it has given us a great foundation to build on, and we’re already looking forward to developing the weekend in the years ahead.
"I’d like to thank everyone who helped make it such a success, including the re-enactors, performers, historians, vehicle owners, exhibitors, traders, volunteers and staff, as well as all those who came along and supported us.
"We’re very pleased to confirm that the 1940s Weekend will return on Saturday 25 and Sunday 26 September 2027, and we look forward to welcoming everyone back to Burton Constable for what promises to be an even bigger and better event."
Organisers plan to use more of the surrounding parkland to enhance the visitor experience.
As an independent charitable historic attraction, Burton Constable Hall relies on events like the 1940s Weekend to attract new visitors and generate vital funds.
Revenue from ticket sales supports the ongoing care and conservation of the hall, its grounds, and its collections.
