A country park in York has been transformed thanks to a major volunteering project.

Rawcliffe Country Park has been revitalised through a month-long scheme led by York Cares, with more than 300 volunteers from over 10 local businesses taking part.

The work, which ran from September 21 to October 16, focused on improving green spaces, supporting wildlife, and making the park more accessible for the community.

To celebrate the improvements, York Cares will host a free “Party in the Park” event on Friday, October 16, from 1pm to 3pm.

Leanne Shaw, operations manager at York Cares, said: "Ready, Set, Rawcliffe! has brought hundreds of volunteers together to make a positive and lasting difference to one of York’s most important green spaces.

"We want the celebration to be a chance for everyone to come along, have some fun and discover what has been achieved."

The event will include food, music, family activities, and forest school sessions for children.

Visitors can also explore a new nature trail and take part in a “soundwalk” audio experience.

The Lord Mayor of York will attend a ribbon-cutting ceremony to officially open the rejuvenated park.

Free parking is available at the nearby Rawcliffe Bar Park & Ride, and tickets can be booked in advance on Eventbrite.
