A long-awaited play area upgrade has sparked fresh calls for action.

Residents in Cottingley have launched a petition demanding answers from Bradford Council about a promised refurbishment that never materialised, despite funding being agreed in 2022.

The petition, led by Green Party campaigner Cath Bacon and resident Toni Louise Gill, asks the council to explain what happened to the funding, why it was withdrawn, and to commit to restoring it.

Ms Bacon said: "Cottingley families have waited long enough.

"This play area hasn’t had the major investment it desperately needs for around 25 years, despite residents being promised an upgrade.

"This isn’t about party politics.

"It’s about a community asking a perfectly reasonable question: Cottingley was promised investment – so where has it gone?"

Ms Gill said: "Families in Cottingley deserve a play area that our children can enjoy and that our community can be proud of.

"We’ve waited far too long for proper investment."

Ms Bacon added that other play areas across the Bradford district have benefited from significant investment, and Cottingley’s children should not be left behind.
