Plans to build housing on a major route into a Bradford village have been approved after the scale of the development was halved.

Bradford Council has decided that the Green Belt site, between 27 and 45 Scarlet Heights in Queensbury, can be classed as “grey belt” – opening the land up for development.

Initially applicant Trevor Bendrien had suggested building eight homes on the site, but after pushback from council officers the number was reduced to four.

The council has now granted “permission in principle” for the plans.

This means officers accept the land is suitable for housing, but a full planning application will need to be submitted and approved before any work can start.

There had been nine objections to the application, with concerns including a loss of views and the potential overdevelopment of the area.

Deciding the site can be classed as grey belt, officers said: “The site is adjacent to existing dwellings and the highway network with bus stops on Scarlet Heights less than 50 metres from the site and also within easy access of the amenities, services, etc. of Queensbury itself.

“When considered in the context of the district as a whole, the loss of Green Belt land would not be significant.”
