A £2 BUS fare cap should be a step toward public ownership, according to a campaign group.
The call comes after Prime Minister Andy Burnham confirmed the cap would be introduced for all bus journeys in England, including West Yorkshire.
Better Buses for West Yorkshire welcomed the move.
Gareth Forest, chair of Better Buses for West Yorkshire, said: "Confirming the £2 cap is a welcome and long overdue step to bring down the cost of travel for the thousands of people who take the bus in West Yorkshire every day.
"But it is a sticking plaster that still rewards private bus companies with public cash for private profit, by subsidising the difference between the £2 cap and the fare bus companies continue to charge.
"Only when the Prime Minister commits to public ownership of our bus services, and kicks private companies out of the bus network altogether, will we stop throwing public money out of the window for private profit.
"Only with publicly owned buses will bus riders get the bus service they deserve."
