A North East nursery has been praised by inspectors for nurturing confident learners in a joyful, supportive environment.

Little Pioneers Nursery and Pre-school Hetton, located in Hetton-le-Hole and operated by Our Co-op, was described as a setting where children "show remarkable confidence in their learning" during a recent Ofsted inspection.

The nursery, which cares for nearly 80 children under the age of five, met the "strong" or "expected standard" in all areas assessed, with particular praise given for personalised learning and emotional development.

Korinne Armour, nursery manager at Little Pioneers Hetton, said: "We are delighted with the report, which is a testament to our dedicated team's hard work and care they provide every day.

"We are grateful that the inspectors have recognised our ongoing efforts to continue to make improvements to the nursery whilst nurturing children into confident young people, providing them with the best possible start in life."

In the area of achievement, inspectors noted that children "engage deeply in activities and demonstrate resilience when tasks become challenging."

The report also highlighted that those with special educational needs and disabilities "make notable progress" and "join in confidently and achieve very well".

The nursery was also rated "strong" in behaviour and routines, with inspectors commending leaders for their thoughtful approach.

They said: "Leaders give careful thought to behaviour and routines," and described the setting as one where children "learn to manage their emotions" due to staff who "model kindness, courtesy and respect in every interaction".

Inspectors observed that staff respond "quickly and calmly" when a child is unsettled, creating a safe and nurturing atmosphere.

The curriculum was another area singled out for praise, with leaders adapting and refining it to suit the "needs, interests and starting points of the children who attend here."

Little Pioneers also received a "strong" rating for teaching, with inspectors noting that staff consistently model new vocabulary and embed "counting, comparing and problem solving into play."

The report highlighted how the team "ensure that all children access the same opportunities," adjusting their approach and environment to keep learning "motivating and suitably challenging."

Inspectors concluded that the nursery is "filled with smiles and laughter from children and staff alike," and that children "play and learn happily alongside their friends."
