A housebuilder has helped give a County Durham church hall a £9,000 makeover in support of the community.
Miller Homes funded the work as part of its Deerness Rise housing development near Ushaw Moor.
St Luke’s Church Hall, next to the development, now has a new kitchen, improved toilets, upgraded heating, new flooring, a replacement front door and fresh decoration throughout.
Lauren Angus, sales director at Miller Homes North East, said: "We are expecting a great deal of interest in Deerness Rise, which sits in a beautiful rural location on the outskirts of Durham City.
"It’s brilliant to be able to bring to market great homes in a great location at a great price, and Miller Homes takes pride in being a good neighbour.
"So it is also fantastic that we are able to help refurbish St Luke’s Church Hall, which initially benefits us with a superb location for our first office, but will benefit the users and the surrounding community for years to come."
Miller Homes is using the church hall as a temporary sales office until it builds a permanent facility on the development.
Deerness Rise covers 21 acres and will eventually have 158 homes, ranging from three to five bedrooms.
A pre-launch event in September gave potential buyers a first look before the development officially launched on October 3.
Miller Homes says the scheme is “more than a new housing development” and aims to build a lasting community in the area.
Ms Angus said: "Deerness Rise is more than a new housing development.
"We are creating a new community in a beautiful location.
"The homes will make the most of this picturesque setting, with a range of house types to suit different lifestyles and fantastic views across the Deerness Valley."
The development is part of Miller Homes’ growing North East portfolio, which includes sites in Seaham, South Shields, Durham and Sunderland.
A Miller Homes spokesman said: "Miller Homes has also committed to investing in the local community, funding refurbishments in St Luke’s Church Hall, which will double as a site office while the first phase of the development is under construction."
The company urged potential buyers to register early to discuss guide prices, available plots and launch incentives.

Deerness Rise is expected to attract buyers with its rural setting and easy access to Durham City.
The development overlooks the River Deerness in the Deerness Valley, with countryside on the doorstep and Durham City a short drive away.
The hall investment is part of Miller Homes’ wider commitment to supporting the communities where it builds.
