Raworths Harrogate Literature Festival to host event starring national treasure Dame Prue Leith

National treasure Dame Prue Leith is coming to Harrogate with an encouraging message – “growing older is something to be embraced”.

The former star of Channel 4’s The Great British Bake Off, Prue will appear in this year’s Raworths Harrogate Literature Festival to reveal all about her bestelling book Being Old… and Learning to Love It!.

It’s easy in today’s digitally-dominated world where youth appears to be valued over experience, for anyone older to feel like they’re heading for the scrapheap.

But the forthcoming talk with the highly respected broadcaster, writer and restaurateur at Harrogate’s Crown Hotel on October 11 will offer an alternative to that feeling.

Coming to Harrogate - Dame Prue Leith is also a successful businesswoman having run her own restaurants and catering and cookery schools, and been a board director at British Rail, Halifax, Whitbread and Belmond Hotels. (Picture contributed)

Blending memoir with uplifting reflections on ageing, Prue will delve into the triumphs, challenges and unexpected joys of growing older, from enjoying fame on The Great British Bake Off to the friendships and experiences that have shaped her life.

With her trademark wit, honesty and no-nonsense charm, she will explore everything from staying curious and finding purpose to love, loss, health and the realities of ageing well.

As well as being head judge on The Great British Bake Off, Prue has also been a judge on a number of other hit TV shows including the American Baking Show and The Great British Menu.

This former chair of the Royal Society of Arts has written 14 cookbooks, eight novels and a memoir, with her most recent book – Being Old… and Learning to Love It! published earlier this year.

Dame Prue is also a successful businesswoman having run her own restaurants and catering and cookery schools, and been a board director on a string of high-profile companies including British Rail, Halifax, Whitbread and Belmond Hotels.

Nothing will be off limits in this entertaining and heartfelt conversation about embracing every stage of life.

The event is presented by Harrogate International Festivals and sponsored by Harrogate law firm Raworths.
