Multiple roads and pathways across North Yorkshire are set for temporary closures and speed limit changes.

Barugh Lane in Little Barugh will be closed to vehicles from October 5, 2026, to February 5, 2027, for sewer work, manhole construction, and air testing.

Access to homes will still be permitted, and traffic signs will indicate the closure period.

United Infrastructure can be contacted for more information on 07493 983062.

A public bridleway in Hawnby is also shut due to an unsafe bridge.

The closure, which began with an emergency notice on September 15, will last until March 14, 2027, and affects pedestrians, cyclists, and horse traffic.

Speed limits in Thornton-le-Clay are changing, with new 20mph and 40mph limits set to be introduced on various roads.

These changes come under the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984, and the new limits are proposed to be enforced on the C181 Thornton-le-Clay to Foston Road, C181 Thornton-le-Clay to Thornton Moor, High Street, and Low Street.

The full details of these changes, along with a map showing the affected roads, can be viewed online at North Yorkshire Council's roadworks map.

Temporary traffic restrictions are also being introduced on unsurfaced unclassified roads in Farndale East.

From October 19, 2026, to April 18, 2028, these roads will be closed to motor-powered vehicles to prevent damage during the wetter winter months.

Traffic signs will indicate the closure period, and alternative routes will be signposted where appropriate.

Residents and road users can keep updated on all these changes through North Yorkshire Council's roadworks map.

Any objections to the proposed speed limit changes should be sent to North Yorkshire Council's Traffic Management team by October 21, 2026.

This can be done via post, email, or through the North Yorkshire Council's traffic regulation orders website.

The council's customer services team is available for further inquiries at 0300 131 2 131.
