North Yorkshire artists open studio doors for special winter weekend

Art lovers are being invited to step inside the creative spaces of North Yorkshire’s artists with Winter Open Studios.

Art lovers are being invited to step inside the creative spaces of North Yorkshire’s artists this winter.

Winter Open Studios, one of the UK’s largest open-studio events, will take place across the county on November 7 and 8, 2026.

It offers visitors the chance to explore working studios, meet artists and discover unique Christmas gifts.

The event is organised by North Yorkshire Open Studios (NYOS), an artist-led collective.

Garth Bayley, project manager at NYOS, said: "Winter Open Studios is about connecting people with the people behind the art.

"There’s something incredibly special about buying a Christmas gift directly from the person who made it, right in the space where it was created."

The weekend forms the final event in NYOS’s year-long programme for 2026.

It will feature a diverse mix of styles, media and subjects, with studios open from a former sawmill in the Dales to a courtyard garden.

Participating artists include Scarborough textile artist Lisa Skelton, Lothersdale printmaker Keith Dickinson, Harrogate painter Frances Tabbernor, and Elise Bikker from Chapel Haddlesey, near York.

NYOS describes the event as a welcoming experience for all, whether visitors plan to see just a handful of studios or turn it into a pre-Christmas weekend break.
