York gym in running for national award as it marks second anniversary

A gym in York has been named a finalist for a national fitness award.

The Recharge Hub in Clifton Moor is in the running for Group Exercise Gym of the Year at the 2026 National Fitness Awards.

The nomination comes as the gym marks its second anniversary, having grown from 12 to more than 26 weekly classes.

Marius Matulevicius, who co-owns The Recharge Hub with Hannah Kay Kersley, said: "When Hannah and I started The Recharge Hub, we wanted to create more than just another gym.

"We wanted to build somewhere people could train, recover, make friends and genuinely feel that they belong."

The Recharge Hub combines group exercise with recovery services including Finnish and infrared saunas, ice baths, and red-light therapy.

It reached full membership within six months and now has around 120 members and a waiting list.

Mr Matulevicius said: "To be recognised nationally for our group exercise programme is incredible.

"This nomination is recognition for our entire team and everyone who has supported us along the way."

The gym recently hosted TEAMathon, a 12-hour charity fitness event that raised £2,334 for York Cares.

Winners of the National Fitness Awards will be announced on Friday, 27 November 2026, at The Athena in Leicester.
