'Can one little wool dress take me through 90 days?' Little Beau Sheep founder takes on sustainability styling challenge

On October 1, the first day of Wool Month, Sarah Turner, founder of Little Beau Sheep, will put on a little navy British wool dress and begin her mission to wear it every day for 90 consecutive days.

Sarah is wearing the dress through autumn and winter for work, travel, family life, meetings and social occasions, documenting the experience on her social media, as she puts wool’s temperature-regulating, odour-resistant and practical qualities to a real-world test.

Sarah Turner, who has featured on BBC1’s CountryFile, is the award-winning founder of Little Beau Sheep, a Yorkshire business built around a mission to champion British wool through practical everyday products.

Sarah says: “We’re surrounded by messages telling us to buy more clothes, more often. I wanted to find out what would happen if I did the opposite. Could one well-made wool dress take me through work, travel, family life and special occasions for 90 days? And if it can, what does that tell us about the way we wear and care for the clothes we already own?”

At the heart of the dress is a 100 per cent British wool fabric with a local and traceable Yorkshire story.

The yarn is Laxtons Sheepsoft, spun in Yorkshire. The fabric is woven by Marton Mills in Pool in Wharfedale, West Yorkshire; and the tailoring and making of the dress is by Norton & Townsend in Ilkley, West Yorkshire, which also has a space at the Abraham Moon shop in York.

The dress and its 90-day wardrobe are being styled with Yorkshire personal stylist Anna Mewes.

The 90-day wool project is also supported by a growing collective of British brands, makers and independent businesses helping Sarah style the dress throughout the 90 days.

From British wool knitwear and accessories to everyday fashion, the Collective will help demonstrate just how many different looks can be created around one hard-working garment, from work and dog walks to travel, events and evenings out.

The collective includes: Abraham Moon, The British Boot Sock Co, Clo Fold, The Croft House, Elwin, Fed by Farmers, Glencroft, Gold Trip, Isabelle Randall, Jigsaw, Joshua Ellis, The Little Blazer Company, NavyGrey, Pashmisy, Porridge Knitwear, Woolkind and WoolOvers.

Throughout the challenge, Ilkley independent Attic Womenswear will also put its own spin on the dress with a monthly styling feature, showing how one garment can be reinvented with different pieces and fresh ideas.
