'Welcome to the world of PM Baldrick Burnham', says York letter writer

York Press readers criticise the PM, praise children’s activities at the York Food Festival and clarify the status of Scarborough’s cliff lift.

Has the PM got more than a ‘cunning plan’?

Watching Laura Kunnesburg on TV, she interviewed our unelected Prime Minister who was put in office much to the discontent of the British public.

He sat there in front of the whole country, did not answer a single question about the problems that the country faces.

His stock answer to every question was identical to the actor taking part in Black Adder whose name was Baldrick and his stock answer to solve any problem was "I have a cunning plan".

Welcome to the world of our new PM Baldrick Burnham.

Children's Food Festival visit was a real treat

I have walked up and down Parliament Street and St Sampson's Square several times recently viewing the stalls during the York Food Festival.

The stalls are filled with delicacies from around the world.

Fortunately the opportunity arose on Wednesday afternoon to walk with classes 5/6 from St Wilfrid's School to see some of the food preparation demonstrations.

The children were enthralled with the bread making demonstrations in the St Sampson's Centre with hands-on experience of kneading the dough and making their own interpretation of a loaf.

The episode of turning doubt cream into butter was absolutely hilarious - it involved putting the cream in a sealed plastic bag and shaking vigorously, with the children taking it in turn to shake the bag until a winning group was finally announced.

Later in a large marquee in Parliament Street we were treated to a talk and demonstration on the history and manufacturing of chocolate by people from the York Chocolate Works. As a son of a manager from the old Terry's chocolate factory, I found the whole talk absolutely fascinating and informative, with excellent questions both asked and answers given.

A case of crossed wires over cliff lifts

Re my letter of September 26 ( The Press, page 14), may I clarify that there is still one cliff lift operating in Scarborough.

One was recently closed but that left one in service. I admit I’ve not been over to check but think that’s the case though I stand to be corrected. Sorry. Crossed wires somewhere, probably not a good idea with a funicular.
