Investigation following arson in Scarborough

Investigation following arson in Scarborough

North Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service were called to Gallows Close Community Centre and were quick to extinguish the flames, restricting the damage to the property.

However, whilst the initial investigation is underway, there’s an appeal for further information to help identify those responsible.

It happened on Sunday 20 September 2026 just after 2:53pm.

The community centre has been an integral part of the community for years. With breakfast clubs, facilities for support groups, our Community Connection events and so much more, it is lucky that the fire damage was limited so quickly. However, the financial impact on the centre is estimated to be around £3000 to put the damage right.

North Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service is also encouraging people to use FireStoppers if they have information about deliberate fire-setting but do not want to speak directly to the emergency services.
