A fire which broke out at a biomass company depot in North Yorkshire late last night (Tuesday, September 29th) “could burn for a number of days”.
North Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service Group Manager, Jon Darnton, is urging people living and working nearby, as well as those travelling in the area, to “close their windows.”
The blaze started in an unprocessed wood pile at the Seras facility in Heck and Pollington Lane in Great Heck, after the Fire and Rescue Service was called at 11.43pm yesterday.
It has been reduced from 200 metres by 30 metres to 50 metres by 30 metres.
Jon Darnton said: “We were called this morning to a fire involving wood piles and we deployed five fire engines to the scene to help deal with the incident alongside two specialist water carriers.
“There is a significant smoke plume which the advice is to keep your windows door closed if you’re in the area we are working hard to prevent the fire from spreading to further wood piles and any buildings.
We are likely to be dealing with the incident for a number of days .”
