BRADFORD is set to receive £222,000 in new government funding to improve access to healthy and affordable food.
The investment is part of a wider almost £10 million scheme targeting 45 areas across England with high levels of deprivation and childhood obesity.
Funding will support community-led food projects such as mobile greengrocers, lunch clubs, community kitchens, and nutrition programmes to help address food insecurity and promote healthier eating.
The Department for Food, Environment & Rural Affairs said: "The investment responds to stark figures: 9 per cent of people lived in food insecure households in 2024/25, while children living in the most deprived communities are significantly more likely to experience obesity and related health inequalities.
"This programme has been developed following the work of the Citizen’s Advisory Council, and conversations with civil society organisations, to understand what would work best for local communities."
The funding will allow local authorities to tailor solutions to meet the specific needs of their communities, putting resources and decision-making in the hands of those who know their areas best.
The programme will also work with businesses, charities, and philanthropy to expand existing projects and attract additional investment, helping to build longer-term food resilience.
