Personal connection inspires £10,000 donation to Bradford burns research

A £10,000 donation is helping to further vital research into burns and plastic surgery.

The funding, given to the Plastic Surgery and Burns Research Unit (PSBRU) at the University of Bradford, came through the Skipton Building Society’s Chair Award and was made by senior software engineer Sam Lewis.

Mr Lewis, who has personal connections to the 1985 Bradford City fire, visited the unit to see the impact of the donation.

He said: "It was fascinating to see the research and innovation taking place within the unit and to hear about the impact it can have on patients.

"Seeing the people behind the research and understanding more about the work they do made the donation feel even more meaningful."

Professor Ajay L Mahajan, director of the PSBRU, expressed his gratitude for the support.

He said: "It was so generous and thoughtful of Sam to make this donation.

"It’s nice to engage with people like Sam that have donated funds to us and we are very grateful to him and the Skipton Building Society.

"The PSBRU has always had a very special place in the hearts of the people of Bradford.

"It is donations like these that have kept us going over the last 40 years."
