A NEW support fund has been launched to help foster families create more space for children in care.
The scheme, set up by Bradford Children and Families Trust and Bradford Council, aims to help families in the Bradford district by funding home extensions, accessibility improvements, or, in some cases, contributions towards purchasing a larger property.
It builds on the Room Maker scheme introduced earlier in 2024, which supports smaller property adaptations.
Charlotte Ramsden, chief executive of Bradford Children and Families Trust, said: "We're excited to launch this new scheme, which demonstrates our commitment to supporting foster carers, kinship carers and adoptive families across Bradford.
"A lack of space can often be the barrier that prevents a child from staying with family or stops someone from becoming a foster carer."
The fund is open not only to foster families but also to special guardians, family carers, adopters, and part- or full-time carers who need home adaptations to support children with disabilities.
Councillor Sally Birch, executive member for children and families at Bradford Council, said: "This is an important investment in Bradford district’s families and our children.
"We want more children to stay close to home and, wherever possible, remain connected to their family networks."
