A North East village has come together for its first scarecrow competition, with colourful creations drawing residents and visitors out to meet their neighbours.

Hilton, near Yarm, was transformed by imaginative scarecrows of all shapes and sizes.

Event organiser Nicola Harrison set out to bring the village together on behalf of the Hilton Village Hall Management Committee.

Ms Harrison said: "I’m always looking for ways to bring the residents of Hilton together.

"Life can be hard at times, so I thought a scarecrow competition would give people of all ages something fun to get involved in.

"It’s been wonderful to see villagers of all ages, old and new, taking part.
