For the fourth year running, not-for-profit care provider Harrogate Neighbours hosted its annual charity golf day, raising £2,500 for its vital Meals on Wheels service.
Local Harrogate and Yorkshire businesses teamed up to form 10 teams of four to take on the greens at Wike Ridge Golf Club.
Unlike last year, when players battled Storm Amy and gale-force winds, this year’s golfers enjoyed blue skies and much more favourable conditions as they took to the course.
The money raised will go towards supporting Harrogate Neighbours’ volunteer-led Meals on Wheels service, which provides much-needed daily support to people across the Harrogate community, helping to reduce social isolation, as well as ensuring people receive a nutritious hot meal.
Harrogate Neighbours also pulled out all the stops to boost fundraising this year, with players able to take part in a team ball challenge, purchase Mulligans for the chance to take another shot, and have a go at a chipping challenge with some great prizes up for grabs.
A buggy also made its way around the course throughout the day selling refreshments, helping to keep players fuelled as they battled it out on the fairways.
One of the golfers who took part, Andrew Lyndsay from Edge Office Systems, said:
A massive thank you to Harrogate Neighbours for organising the event.
The rain stopped at the perfect time, and a great time was had by all. My team loved the course, and although we may not have won, it was certainly the taking part that counted today.
We were glad to have taken part in aid of your charity and will look forward to next year’s event.
Jamie Nicholson-Ruther, Communication and Development Manager at Harrogate Neighbours, added:
The annual golf day at Harrogate Neighbours is one of my favourite fundraisers. The teams, the laughter, the scores and the community feel all contributed to create a really special atmosphere on the golf course.
Our fundraisers are important for two main reasons. They champion the Harrogate Neighbours cause, and they also help to support our vital community services, like our Meals on Wheels and Community Hub.
The event brought together businesses from across Harrogate and Yorkshire, with teams enjoying the opportunity to network, compete and support a local charity at the same time.
