A YORK school has been named among the top in the country for a prestigious education award.
Bootham School - which based on the street of the same name in York - is one of six schools across the UK shortlisted for Independent Boarding School of the Year in the Independent Schools of the Year Awards 2026.
The overall winner is set to be announced next month.

- 25 historic York buildings to open their doors for free this weekend
Deneal Smith, head of Bootham, said: "What makes being named a finalist particularly meaningful is that it recognises something we work hard to nurture every day: a community where everyone contributes.
"Older students support younger pupils, staff give generously of their time and expertise, families place their trust in us, and every member of our community plays a role in creating an environment where young people feel valued and supported."
He emphasised that the recognition, which "celebrates the entire school community", shows appreciation for the work of pupils and staff in supporting everyone, including boarders, to ensure that their support extends beyond just the school day.
Mr Smith added: "Boarding at Bootham is about much more than where a pupil sleeps. Alongside our full and weekly boarding options, many local families make use of flexi boarding to help balance the demands of busy family life.
"Whether a pupil boards regularly or occasionally, they become part of a community that offers a genuine sense of belonging."
In 2024, Bootham won the Environmental Achievement category at the same awards which celebrate excellence and innovation in independent education, with finalists chosen from schools across the UK.
