A MAN who had a heart attack after 'disappearing' on a stag weekend is raising funds for the hospital which helped save his life..
Jamie Miller, was part of a group of 16 on a trip to Newcastle, when he went missing.
After a night out, he began a Friday morning with his friends with breakfast at the Mile Castle in Newcastle city centre.
However he became separated from the group, crossed the road, and collapsed in a cemetery opposite the pub.
Thankfully, a good Samaritan saw him collapse and was able to provide life-saving help.
Jamie, who was then 37, said: " I was on a stag do in Newcastle. We had been out on the Thursday while the Euros were on. We had had a fairly normal night - we weren't going wild, we were due to fly to Poland the next day.
"I woke up on the Friday morning and actually felt okay. We left the hotel at about quarter past nine, and that's my last memory.
"But from what I have picked up, we walked into the town centre and into Wetherspoons. I walked out - and the rest of the group just assumed I was hungover, but I had collapsed in the churchyard opposite the pub. A member of the public must have seen this happen.
"They found me and carried out CPR, got the defibrillator and called the ambulance. All the while my mates were still in Wetherspoons - not knowing what had happened.
"I woke up in the Freeman Hospital not knowing where I was or what had happened."
Jamie, from Terrington, said had it not been for the mystery stranger - and the paramedics and Freeman Hospital team who "did an amazing job," he probably wouldn't be here.
"The staff said that I has been left for just five minutes more I would have passed away."
Jamie's recovery has continued and while he missed the Polish leg of the stag do, he made it to the wedding over the summer.
"Two years on, I'm now has fit as ever. I'm on medication for the rest of his life, but thats a small price to pay."
Following the incident, Jamie and his partner Jade, aimed to return to Newcastle to run the Great North Run in aid of the Freeman Hospital.
"We were originally planning on completing it in 2025 but overlooked that fact that the Cardiologist would need to approve it - which he didnt.
"Fast forward to 2026 and Jade my girlfriend and I completed it on behalf of the Freeman Hospital and the Cardiology ward as just a small thank you to them for the everything they did for me and the support they gave to my family and mates during the time I was in hospital.
Jamie said that so far he had raised just under 900.
"Thank you so much to everyone that has donated on our just giving page.
"It means so much to us that we will be able to give something back to Freeman hospital to say thank you."
