Prioritise the dualling of the A64 to help boost the economy - Yorkshire Post Letters

From: Peter Neal, Cleethorpes.

Surely there has been no better time to prioritise the long overdue dualling of the A64 to help the economic wellbeing of North Yorkshire. Four MPs including Sir Alec Shelbrooke, Tom Gordon, Kevin Hollinrake and Julian Smith have jointly written to PM Andy Burnham reminding him of his commitment to Northern England arguing that the vital upgrade will benefit not just York, Malton and Scarborough but greater and more accessible connectivity will undoubtedly benefit Bridlington, Filey, Harrogate and Wetherby.

Unfortunately, significant stretches of the A64 remain single carriageway leading to extended journey times and a handicap to important investment, tourism and further expansive economic growth.

Decades of lobbying Parliament for the dualling have fallen on deaf ears in spite of the efforts and persistence of our MPs. If Number 10 North has serious ambitions about improving life in Yorkshire then what better way to emphasize the intentions than a serious commitment to dual this important link to the east coast by eliminating the many current bottlenecks.

However, as the current administration is struggling to run the economy effectively, I fear the hopes of dualling the A64 is a rather forlorn hope despite the vast economic benefits this will bring to the area and the continued support this scheme deserves.
