House becomes third on same street to be closed by police in recent months due to complaints

A house in Loftus has become the third on the same street to be made subject of a closure order by police in recent months.

The house in Gladstone Street is now subject to a three-month closure order after neighbourhood officers and colleagues from Redcar & Cleveland Borough Council's Antisocial Behaviour Team responded to numerous complaints from the local community about crime and antisocial behaviour in and around the property.

Police said this was the third house on the street to be placed under closure “in recent months”, with “people entitled to live in peace in their homes”.

“This is now the third house on this street to be placed under a closure order in recent months; people are entitled to live in peace in their homes, and I hope people living in and around Gladstone Street will now notice a positive difference in their quality of life."

Speaking after the order was granted at court on Friday September 25, Redcar & East Cleveland Neighbourhoods Inspector Neil Deluce said: “Once again the work between police, the local authority and residents has paid off and another property at the centre of persistent criminality and ASB has been closed.

“This is now the third house on this street to be placed under a closure order in recent months; people are entitled to live in peace in their homes, and I hope people living in and around Gladstone Street will now notice a positive difference in their quality of life.

“I’d reassure anyone else who may be affected by similar issues that police and our partners will not tolerate such behaviour and we will hold perpetrators accountable for their actions.”

Insp Deluce added that any issues can be reported to local officers, to Redcar & Cleveland Borough Council, or to housing providers.

Redcar & Cleveland Borough Council Cabinet Member for Neighbourhoods, Coun Neil Bendelow, said: “It is regrettable that this kind of drastic action has to be taken and it is always a last resort.

"However, I know the police and our officers will not hesitate to do what it takes to protect our residents who want nothing more than to go about their lives in peace. I’d like to thank everyone involved in taking this action.”
