Good progress has been made on improvement works on a main North Yorkshire road.

The A170 at Sutton Bank is currently closed for maintenance work.

The closure began on September 13 and is expected to last until October 4.

The annual maintenance includes planned repairs to the rock face and routine work on the road, aiming to enhance the long-term condition of the route.

Over the past week, teams have been excavating the carriageway and verge, and installing a new 300mm diameter carrier pipe between Gormire Farm and the south hairpin.

The work also includes constructing new drainage chambers and replacing road gullies.

By October 4, the project is expected to have delivered 940 metres of new drainage, 19 new chambers, and 62 replacement road gullies.

This week, carriageway reinstatement using hot rolled asphalt will continue, followed by replacement road lining works.
