Stars to film Christmas movie in York – and you can be part of it

A new Christmas movie is set to be filmed in York.

Santa Express The Movie is written by York filmmaker Dave Thorp and stars actor and formerBlue Peter presenter Peter Purves as the man in the red suit.

It is described as “a new British family Christmas feature film being shot in York and North Yorkshire from the 5th to the 25th October”.

Other roles in the movie include singer Toyah Willcox, and former Coronation Street star Victoria Ekanoye.

The producers say the film is “set against the magical backdrop of Christmas in York and the North Yorkshire Moors Railway, Santa Express is a warm, funny and uplifting family film filled with steam trains, snow, Christmas magic and plenty of heart”.

It is due to be released this Christmas.

The movie website says: “Santa Express The Movie follows Bob Browning as he enters Santa’s magical world of elves, trains and Christmas wonder, where one family must rediscover love, belief and the true meaning of Christmas.

“The original feature combines a warm family story with the romance and spectacle of Britain’s railway heritage.

“At the centre of the adventure is Father Christmas, played for the first time by national icon, broadcaster and Doctor Who actor Peter Purves.

“The film is written by Dave Thorp, produced by independent British production company Picture Point Films and directed by Daniel Coll.”

Now they are looking for extras to support the cast.

In posts on social media, producers say: “Unfortunately, as we are a small-team, low-budget film, we are unable to provide payment for our extras. However we will make sure you are well fed and taken care of during your time with us!

“Extras will only be required for one half day of shooting each (though are able to do multiple days if you wish!)”
