'Everyone can be part of it!' – Iconic York road to host free finale of new jazz festival

Bishopthorpe Road will host the finale of the York Jazz Festival with a free afternoon of live music.

The finale of the festival will take place this Sunday, 4 October in the Shoppers Car Park from 12pm to 7:30pm.

Featuring performances from the Fergus Quill Sextet, Dennis Rollins and others, the programme promises an afternoon of lively, get-on-your-feet jazz, accompanied by food and drink from local businesses.

The event is completely free to attend, with organisers choosing to open up the finale so that the whole community can come along and enjoy the festival.

The event is being brought to Bishy Road by the Bishopthorpe Road Traders Association, working with York Jazz Festival, with funding provided by the York and North Yorkshire Combined Authority through the Vibrant and Sustainable High Streets Fund.

Following four successful Bishy Road Bazaars and the summer Street Party, the Jazz Festival Finale will transform the car park once again into a community space, bringing together live music, local residents and visitors for one final major celebration on Bishy Road this year.

“We want people to be able to wander down to Bishy Road, hear some fantastic live jazz, grab something to eat or drink and just enjoy the afternoon,” said Beppe Lombardo, of the Bishopthorpe Road Traders Association.

“Making the Finale free means everyone can be part of it.”
