A secondary school has been forced to shut early.

Bradford Forster Academy, located on Fenby Avenue, announced it would be closing at 11.20am.

More than 900 students aged 11 to 16 have been affected.

Why has the school shut early?

It comes following an unplanned loss of power in the area.

The outage has left the school without water and catering facilities.

Students sent home

The school informed families that students would be allowed access to their mobile phones to contact home before leaving the site.

A statement from the school said: "We currently have an unplanned power outage in the area and Northern PowerGrid are aware.

"We have no facilities to feed students, and we have no hot or cold water, therefore we are going to close at 11.20am.

"If your child has their mobile phone with them, they will have access to it shortly to contact home."
