Tesco is looking to fell two trees and crown three groups of trees which are overgrowing onto pathways at its Sowerby Bridge store.
Tesco Stores Limited has applied to Calderdale Council seeking permission for the work – the trees are subject to tree preservation orders, so need approval -at the store at Sowerby Street.
According to supporting documents from agents Ground Control, the trees in question are causing overhanging and overgrowth on the back walkway and up the drive to the store itself.
“On inspection there were several areas of work where pruning would be beneficial,” they say.
The work will include pruning back for the road and path to create a greater clearance and cutting back for the light, signage and crossing point, says Ground Control, who will provide a certified team to carry out the work.
A pole saw will be used to crown lift five birch trees to three metres above the road, cutting them back to behind the kerb edge.
In another spot, they will use a chainsaw to cut back some sycamore tree regrowth and then treat the stump with eco plugs to help prevent regrowth, and will crown lift a birch tree to three metres above the road and back behind the kerb.
The team will remove the group of sycamore and willow regrowth and treat the stumps with eco plugs, according to supporting papers.
Elsewhere, they will crown lift a birch tree to 3.5 metres above the ground and cut it back from a lighting column, and crown lift a willow tree to clear the sign and light on the crossing point.
Finally, they will crown lift a birch tree to 3.5 metres height and crown lift a cherry tree to 3.5 metres above a path and behind a fence.
Waste will be processed through a woodchipper and removed from the site for suitable disposal, if planners agree to the application.
The application, number 26/20109/TPO, and supporting papers can be viewed on the council’s Planning Portal.
