A beauty treatment suite is a great fit above a Brighouse bar, doubling business capacity in the same building, Calderdale planners say.
Approving Nathapon Nunthanee’s application to change the use of the first and second floors of the Bradford Road property into beauty treatment rooms, Calderdale Council planning officers said there were no negative impacts.
Number 26 is a property at first and second floor level above number 24, which is the Truth bar and cafe, which will still be independently-operated.
The planners said: “The proposed development would retain and strengthen the employment and functionality of a retail unit within the designated town centre.
“The sub-division would enable the premises to accommodate two separate businesses without the loss of retail and employment floorspace, making effective use of the existing building and supporting opportunities for continued business investment and occupation within Brighouse town centre, enabling its ongoing vitality and viability.”
No external alterations or internal are required so there would be no impact on the character or appearance of Brighouse town centre, said officers.
The development would not result in a material increase in traffic generation or parking demand and would have no unacceptable impact upon highway safety, they added.
The rooms will be a nail bar, massage rooms and make-up type services, according to the supporting papers.
At the moment the space in question is being used as an Air B ‘n’ B apartment and was previously a rental flat, they said.
The existing internal staircase will be retained and used to access the beauty suite.
“The use of beauty treatment rooms is a less onerous use than residential accommodation in a mixed use town centre location,” said agents Jason B. Wade in the supporting papers.
