A 'redundant' building at a sixth form college is set to be torn down.

The old craft, design and technology block at Hartlepool Sixth Form College off Blakelock Road is no longer needed for educational use.

Education Partnership North East, which submitted the application to Hartlepool Borough Council, described the building as “redundant” and confirmed it is “no longer in use or required for educational purposes.”

It is hoped that demolition would start around November 30 and would be completed by the end of December.

No plans have been made to redevelop or rebuild on the site once demolition is complete.

The planning application states that precautions will be taken to control dust throughout the process.

It explains that, during the works, there will be dust management and to ensure it is minimised, with contractors utilising a dust suppression system during the demolition works - and a water hose if appropriate.

Following the completion of demolition works and area clearance, the site will be inspected to ensure a clean and safe finish.
