Two men were arrested after students heard people breaking into their home in Durham City, with police tracking suspects through a stolen iPad's location settings.

Last week, students living in the city called officers from Durham Police after they heard people breaking into their properties with camouflage clothing and balaclavas.

The suspects fled the scene with an iPad.

After tracking the device using its location settings, police tracked down two suspects and arrested two men, both 23, on suspicion of burglary.

"Luckily, one of the students remembered the iPad’s location settings were turned on, so officers were able to direct their area search.

"Following a brief foot chase, both suspects were arrested by PCs Bray and Hounslow and off to the cells within seven minutes of the initial call being made.

"Both 23-year-old men were arrested on suspicion of burglary and the iPad was returned to its owner."
