County Durham residents can apply for a life-saving career as the fire service recruits its next team of wholetime firefighters.

County Durham and Darlington Fire and Rescue Service is recruiting full-time firefighters, with no previous experience required.

It wants determined, resilient people who are passionate about helping others.

Steve Helps, chief fire officer at CDDFRS, said: "Firefighting is unlike any other career.

"One moment you're responding to emergencies and protecting lives, the next you're supporting vulnerable people in your community or helping prevent incidents before they happen.

"Every day presents new challenges, new opportunities and the chance to make a real difference.

"We're looking for people from all backgrounds who share our commitment to serving others and keeping communities safe.

"If you're looking for more than just a job, if you want a career you can be proud of and one that genuinely matters, then we want to hear from you."

Wholetime firefighters are trained to tackle fires, road crashes, water rescues and other emergencies.

They also help keep communities safe and prevent incidents.

Applicants must be at least 18 when training starts and able to travel to stations across County Durham and Darlington.

Successful candidates will start with 15 weeks of intensive training in spring 2027.

The starting salary is £31,539 during the development phase, rising to £40,358 once fully qualified.
